Turkish Delegation Aims To Boost Food Trade With Malaysia

Objectives: To boost Turkish food trade with Malaysia, using Malaysia as a gateway to ASEAN, through direct B2B engagements and reciprocal visits to Gaziantep.

11th July 2025, Kuala Lumpur – A Turkish trade delegation from the South-East Anatolian Exporters Association (GAİB) recently met with the Kuala Lumpur & Selangor Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KLSICCI) to enhance food trade and economic ties. This visit precedes a B2B event in August, highlighting Turkey’s goal to expand its presence in the Malaysian and wider ASEAN markets.

The delegation, representing 11 leading exporters, discussed increasing trade in key food products like wheat flour, sunflower oil, pasta, cereals, and confectionery. They aim to leverage Malaysia as a strategic entry point into the 1.1 billion-strong ASEAN market.

Despite the 2015 Malaysia–Turkey Free Trade Agreement (MTFTA), Turkish food products currently account for only 10% of Malaysia’s imports in these sectors. The delegates are keen to boost this share through direct B2B engagements.

To strengthen these partnerships, KLSICCI members are invited to visit Gaziantep, Turkey’s main export hub, with travel and accommodation sponsored by the Turkish Ministry of Trade. This initiative seeks to increase trade engagement and strengthen Turkey–Malaysia commercial ties within ASEAN.
