23rd July, Putrajaya – The Kuala Lumpur & Selangor Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KLSICCI) was invited to participate in an exclusive closed-door engagement with YAB Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim to discuss key issues affecting the Indian business community in Malaysia.
During the engagement, KLSICCI President, Mr. V.K.K. Rajasekaran Teagarajan, together with MAICCI President Y.Bhg Dato’ Seri Gobalakrishnan Narayanasamy, highlighted longstanding concerns faced by Indian businesses, particularly relating to foreign worker recruitment, escalating costs and processing delays.
KLSICCI is encouraged that YAB Prime Minister acknowledged these concerns and was receptive to the issues raised. We understand that an important announcement regarding the foreign worker situation is expected in the near future.
KLSICCI also took the opportunity to advocate for a review of the National Procurement Policy to enable greater direct participation of Indian-owned companies in Government-Linked Company (GLC) projects, thereby enhancing their competitiveness. In addition, KLSICCI proposed that GLCs publish a supplier diversity report to promote transparency and ensure that Indian businesses, particularly SMEs, are provided with fair and meaningful opportunities to participate in the national economy.
KLSICCI extends its sincere appreciation to Y.Bhg Datuk Seri Ramanan Ramakrishnan for his leadership in organising this important engagement, which provided a valuable platform for constructive dialogue between the Government and the Indian business community.
