23rd Jan 2025, Damansara – The Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KLSICCI) recently held a courtesy meeting with the Construction Labour Exchange Centre Berhad (CLAB) at CLAB’s headquarters. The meeting, chaired by CLAB CEO Datuk Abdul Rafik Abdul Rajis, focused on fostering collaboration and addressing the construction industry’s challenges faced by contractors and MSMEs.
Representing KLSICCI were President Mr. Nivas Ragavan, Deputy President Mr. Prabagaran Vyithilingam, Hon. Secretary General Ms. Mogana Chinnathamby, Council Member Datuk Ganesh Muraj, and Ampang District Liaison Mr. Gunaraj Muniandy. The meeting aimed to explore opportunities for joint initiatives that would benefit KLSICCI members and the wider construction sector.
One of the key topics of discussion was the process and requirements for obtaining the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Green Card, a vital credential for workers to access construction sites legally and safely. The two parties explored ways to collaborate on organizing Green Card training sessions, making the process more accessible to KLSICCI members.
Challenges faced by MSMEs and contractors in obtaining the Green Card were also discussed, with KLSICCI raising concerns about the need for simplified procedures to overcome barriers. Both organizations acknowledged the importance of addressing these issues to support businesses in complying with industry regulations.
The meeting also included a request for updates on the latest quotas, and procedures for recruiting foreign construction workers. Discussions were held on streamlining the recruitment process to reduce delays while ensuring compliance with government regulations. Mechanisms to assist members in managing worker permit renewals, and other documentation were also explored.
This productive engagement underscores KLSICCI’s commitment to supporting its members and promoting growth within the construction industry. The Chamber’s collaboration with CLAB is expected to yield positive outcomes, ensuring that industry players can navigate challenges effectively while upholding regulatory compliance. Further updates on these initiatives will be shared in the coming months.
