29th July, Kuala Lumpur – The Kuala Lumpur & Selangor Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KLSICCI) held a constructive engagement session with the Federal Territory Ministry to discuss key issues affecting the business community and strengthen collaboration between both organisations. The meeting was chaired by Ms. Vijeyatharzini Bathmanathan, Pegawai Tugas-Tugas Khas (Dasar), Kementerian Wilayah Persekutuan.
Representing KLSICCI were Mr. V.K.K. Rajasekaran Teagarajan, President; Ms. Mogana Chinnathamby, Deputy President; Dr. Chitra Devi S Balakrishnan, Vice President; Mr. Pravin Selvam Tamil Selvam, Assistant Honorary Secretary General; and Dr. Is. Ir. Prabakaran Rajah Thiagarajah, Honorary Treasurer.
The discussion commenced with matters relating to the Deepavali Bazaar, where KLSICCI proposed the identification of more suitable and strategic locations to accommodate a larger number of traders while enhancing business opportunities during the festive season. This was followed by an exchange of views on the Urban Renewal Bill, with the Chamber highlighting the importance of ensuring that the interests of businesses and commercial property owners are taken into consideration.
The meeting also addressed the recurring flood issues affecting businesses in Kuala Lumpur. DBKL shared updates on the measures currently being implemented to mitigate flooding and improve resilience in affected areas. KLSICCI further expressed its aspiration to serve as a strategic partner to DBKL in supporting initiatives and policies that contribute to a more conducive and sustainable business environment.
On business licensing matters, KLSICCI welcomed the positive response received from business owners following DBKL’s implementation of the three-year business licence renewal, which has improved convenience and reduced administrative burden. Discussions also covered issues relating to temporary business licences, as well as the identification of more strategic locations for micro-enterprises to operate in a manner that promotes business growth while minimising traffic congestion. The Chamber also emphasised the importance of establishing standardised rules and regulations for licensing to ensure greater consistency, transparency and fairness in implementation.
KLSICCI appreciates the Ministry’s openness in engaging with the business community and looks forward to continuing its collaboration with DBKL to develop practical solutions that support sustainable economic growth and a more business-friendly environment for all.
